"If you want to describe the heavens to someone, use words. If you want to take them there, use music". - - - Jesús López-Cobos
Founded in 2007, the Willamette Valley Community Orchestra is a community-based, volunteer symphony orchestra composed of advanced high school students, college/university students, public school teachers, college/university faculty and staff, and local enthusiasts from all professional backgrounds. We are dedicated to providing quality, affordable musical performances for all residents of the Willamette Valley.
The Willamette Valley Community Orchestra's (WVCO) objectives are:
1. To encourage attendance by a diverse population from the Willamette Valley by carefully planning our concert season to appeal to families, seniors, singles, and all area residents who enjoy quality live musical performances. It is our goal that these concerts will contribute to the cultural enrichment of our region and enhance the lives of our listeners. We also offer low priced tickets ($10.00 or less) and distribute a number of free tickets to underserved populations so that all of our neighbors and friends can share in the joy of live musical performance.
2. To provide a joy-filled, rewarding orchestral playing experience to residents of the Willamette Valley. We encourage players of bowed strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments to join us.
3. To offer performances of both standard repertoire and seldom heard works, with a special focus on local and regional soloists of high merit. The WVCO performs three major concerts and fund-raisers as appropriate and/or necessary each year.
4. To always remain a fully functioning, volunteer based symphony orchestra made up of local musicians and to encourage and support the activities of other performing arts ensembles and organizations in our region.
As of March 27, 2008, the WVCO is recognized by both the Secretary of State, Corporation Division, of the state of Oregon (Registry #506229-93) and the Internal Revenue Service (EIN# 26-1974387) as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with Public Charity status [170(b)(1)(A)(vi)].
